Haiku is a form of  Japanese poetry, consisting of 17 moras , in three phrases of 5, 7, and 5 moras respectively. Although haiku are often stated to have 17 syllables, this is inaccurate as syllables and moras are not the same….haiku in English often appear in three lines to parallel the three phrases of Japanese haiku and may deal with any subject matter.

Flarf poetry can be characterized as an avant garde poetry movement of the late 20th century and the early 21st century. Its first practitioners used an aesthetic dedicated to the exploration of “the inappropriate” in all of its guises. Their method was to mine the Internet with odd search terms then distill the results into often hilarious and sometimes disturbing poems, plays, and other texts.

Flarf-ku is poetry that uses Flarf as the “method” and Haiku as the “format.”
